To Kill a Mockingbird Movie Event

I do not often post press releases on my blog, and I rarely host giveaways, but this one is for a book I love so much and the movie is really good, too, so I hope you will bear with me for just one post.

Two years ago, I re-read To Kill a Mockingbird and was blown away by how amazing it is.  I loved the book when I read it as a high schooler, but as an adult I understood the context in which it was written and the background of the novel so much better than I ever had before.  If you haven't read the book, then I hope you do - perhaps this giveaway will incentive you to do so?  And if you have read the book, but it's been YEARS like it had been for me, I hope you consider opening it up again.  I bet it'll be even better than you remembered.

I admit that I don't think the movie is nearly as good as the book is.  Many of the secondary characters are ignored, which is a great tragedy, in my opinion.  But it's still a wonderful story about a plucky girl named Scout and her crazy-awesome dad, Atticus, and if you've not seen it, I highly recommend you enter this giveaway:

  1. I'm glad to hear someone say the movie isn't nearly as good as the book. I have a bunch of friends and family who say it's a great movie, but how could a movie live up to that book?

  2. I missed out on participating in this giveaway, so I'd love to win tickets!

I saw the movie first, so I'm especially fond of it since I didn't have the book to compare it to. The casting of that film is terrific. But yes, the book is better.

  5. What an incredible giveaway! I would love to win tickets!

It is just wonderful that they're showing the film in theaters again. Last summer I roadtripped to Monroeville, AL (Harper Lee's hometown) and visited the courthouse, which is now a To Kill a Mockingbird museum. I'm a huge fan of the book and the movie (obviously the book mainly) and I'm glad you let us know about this!

  6. I just love Gregory Peck. And the book is so great, I've reread it as an adult, and it is so powerful.

  9. I did this same thing recently, rereading To Kill a Mockingbird as an adult, and I was floored by it also. No wonder the author never wrote another, after writing a nearly perfect novel on the first try! I work Thursday nights which is always when events happen, so no need to enter me in the giveaway, but thank you!
