Guest Post for Cultural Diversity!

Cultural Diversity
I am guest posting over at Lost in Books today for Cultural Diversity Month! Go on over there if you want to learn about my thoughts on being Indian!  And no, the picture below is not me.  I do not have a nose ring, sadly, nor do I know Indian classical dance.

  2. I read it and I must say that I found it very interesting to learn more about you. Prejudice is everywhere, regarding every culture. I am Romanian / German and there are a lot of prejudices about these countries out there. The one I hate most is that 'all Germans are cold hearted and Nazis'. I heard that a lot, sadly!

  5. Zibilee & Leaning- Thank you!

Andreea- I know that in the US, we use the word "Nazi" more loosely. For example, there is a very famous episode of the tv show Seinfeld called "The Soup Nazi." And I think I said that to my friend's German boyfriend at the time, and he was really offended. I felt horrible as I didn't realize it was so offensive there when here it was being used in a more "joking" way, so I can understand why you are offended by people saying that about you.

  6. I enjoyed your guest post! And I also wanted to say: yesterday I read ALL the comments (sort of compulsively) on the Farm Lane Books British vs. American culture post, and I was really cheering for you, even as I was made uncomfortable with the conflict overall. You brought up all the right points, fearlessly and gracefully. Thanks for that.

  7. Trapunto- I was uncomfortable with the overall conflict, too. I wasn't at first, but then more and more comments were made that were just not very nice. Thank you for your support! I am always worried that I shouldn't be so outspoken in public forums, so I'm glad my points came across ok.

I read every comment posted on this blog, even if it sometimes takes me a while to respond. Thank you for taking the time and effort to comment here! Unless you are spamming me, in which case, thanks for nothing.
