It does sound like this is a really heavy and dark series, but since it's been awhile since I have read one of those, the change might be nice. I do like the fact that the character portrayals are so three dimensional and that as a reader, you get to form relationships with all of the cast as you move from book to book. It just sounds like something I could really get invested with, despite it's darkness. I think I am going to go out and get the first book this weekend, your reviews have totally sold me on this series!Zibileehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05857638467064749190noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7343567357202223317.post-83487344212059420892010-03-04T03:02:42.441-06:002010-03-04T03:02:42.441-06:00This sounds like something that'd leave me dep...This sounds like something that'd leave me depressed for a whole week :| Then again, that doesn't usually make me shy away from books :PAna S.https://www.blogger.com/profile/16092495983972185943noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7343567357202223317.post-72013721241473839862010-03-04T02:08:59.981-06:002010-03-04T02:08:59.981-06:00You have me so torn. Your review was excellent, but I tried to read the first in this series some time ago and ran into the problem that I didn't like any of the characters. I knew I wasn't really supposed to, but when the kindest emotion I felt for any of the viewpoint characters was mild disgust, I knew it was going to be a long ride and I wasn't sure I was up for it. But I do want to read the books, if only because Abercrombie's a good writer and the plot was fascinating.Shannon C.http://www.flightintofantasy.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7343567357202223317.post-56215236092952591382010-03-03T21:04:43.780-06:002010-03-03T21:04:43.780-06:00This is an absolutely amazing review. I believe he is coming out with a new book sometime next year, to be set in the North.

Darker fantasy is a trend, but that doesn't mean that every author is good at it.
