I then added Mailbox Monday and when Sheila of One Person's Journey Through a World of Books started Word Verification Balderdash I jumped on board. Now I only do Mailbox Monday and Sheila has passed the Balderdash Meme on to me. I personally do a weekly post on Wed. about my favorite ficitonal characters but I don't consider that a meme at all.

I personaly enjoy reading some of the meme posts even if I don't participate. I have yet to come across two blogs that are similar so the posts are always different.

I guess my answer is do what you like, participate or not but whatever you do make sure you are enjoying it. When I first started blogging I would stress about whether readers would like a certain post or not. Now I blog for me first and if others like what I have to say, that's even better.Ryanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17786139533776263328noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7343567357202223317.post-33246996892981941712010-01-20T04:40:34.439-06:002010-01-20T04:40:34.439-06:00Oh, tell me about. I participate in Sunday Salon mostly, but like a lot of other commenters, I don't really feel like it's a meme. And most weeks I'll participate in Library Loot. Sometimes Friday Finds, but I like both of those memes because it's me talking about books and why I've picked up particular books, which books I'm looking forward to. If I'd left it at just a list of books for either, even *I'd* get bored reading it, so I do try to make it something more.Michelle Fluttering Butterflieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08793681725475475156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7343567357202223317.post-91435732684031950672010-01-19T23:06:06.325-06:002010-01-19T23:06:06.325-06:00What a great post! I have always done Booking through Thursday because, for the most part, I liked the the thought provoking questions and to see what everyone else has to answer. Recently I started participating in Mailbox Mondays but that's it for me! Plus, it's a great way to find new blogs too! Now I stick with Sunday Salon religiously and then I do Mailbox Monday and Library Loot when applicable. Sometimes I'll post them weekly or sometimes it will be a month between participation. Just depends on if I have been to the library or bought/received any books. The thing is, so many of these memes offer something for the blogger who's short of time or ideas to do, and whilst that's great for the blogger, it can be a whole lot less interesting for the blog reader. The best blog posts really involve you in another person's reading experience, and evolve out of something that matters to the author. Often meme questions get answered as if they were questions from school, and that's again a bit disengaging.

But I do respond to memes when they are in the form of questionnaires about books and reading - sometimes you can have some fun with those, and people can be very witty in their responses.litlovehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10952927245186474480noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7343567357202223317.post-21390213378694335582010-01-18T16:05:07.221-06:002010-01-18T16:05:07.221-06:00I don't participate in any memes, but I have t...I don't participate in any memes, but I have thought about doing Mailbox Monday. I see other bloggers doing a lot, and I have often wondered how they have that much time, but I have to admit that if I did more, there probably would be a bigger sense of community on my blog. I guess I am going to have ti think about how much time I am putting into my blog and if I should try to do some memes every week. Now that I think of it, The Sunday Salon might be a fun thing to do. I do make a point to visit other people who participate in the TT and comment, but that is part of the fun of participating. It's interesting to see the variations. I am glad to know I'm not the only one who skims through the memes :-) In fact, it seems a LOT of us skim through them which makes me wonder why so many exist in the first place...

I completely agree that it's making the meme "you" that makes the posts interesting. So I participate in two. I started FreeVerse to highlight poetry so I have to participate in that to put up the Mr. Linky. People are really starting to like it. I also call it a non-meme, because people can post ANYTHING related to poetry and link to posts through Mr. Linky that they've posted on some other day.

I also participate in Friday Firsts. At first I used it to highlight the book I was reviewing for Monday, but then it developed into my short story spotlight. (I didn't know about Short Story Saturdays). I was reading a book called Beginnings, Middles & Ends by Nancy Kress about catching a reader's interest in the first paragraph or two. Now I post the first few paragraphs of a free online short story and my analysis of the first few paragraphs. I encourage people to go read the whole short story. Using the Friday Firsts Mr. Linky helps me get more traffic even though I'm technically not following the rules of Friday Firsts.Cara Powershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15629469295992958988noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7343567357202223317.post-34441324926023374062010-01-17T17:55:28.481-06:002010-01-17T17:55:28.481-06:00I don't think Sunday Salon is really a meme. ...I don't think Sunday Salon is really a meme. I hate to admit it, but I very very rarely read the meme posts, and outside of The Sunday Salon, I don't participate in any one meme on a regular basis. Then I picked up Teaser Tuesday because I was reading some really cool things that I wanted to share with people -- and I'll still occasionally throw up a TT post, but I've discovered I prefer to add some content about the book/why I'm reading it/what I'm thinking about it. I tend to only post for TT if I run into something that I really want to share. There's a fair bit of variety with how people handle posting for that meme. But the reason I don't participate that often anymore is exactly as others say -- the number of posts to have a look at can be so overwhelming. I feel the same about Mailbox Mondays.

The other one I do regularly now, because again it can be so customized and individual, is a tiny little meme called FreeVerse. It's on Wednesdays and I like how it gives me the chance to focus on poetry in a way I probably wouldn't if I wasn't participating, and to find some other unique poems out there.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10330550798080469047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7343567357202223317.post-74105207828274631272010-01-17T10:24:46.042-06:002010-01-17T10:24:46.042-06:00I participate in one regularly, the seemingly unpo...I participate in one regularly, the seemingly unpopular Teaser Tuesdays, but added my own spin to it recently my "playing" Book Lovers' Trivial Pursuit with my readers and also updating my readers on my progress during the week (like a Salon on Tuesday but brief!) Perhaps I should ditch the Teaser seeing as nobody reads them and simply make it my own Trvia feature? I only do that on a Tuesday so that it gives me one day where I can concentrate on other posts and reading.

Library Loot is another that I participate in but only every few weeks as I don't go to the library every week!
